HOME SCIENCE

Home Science is Generally used by women. Home Economics and Home Science, for a long time, was supposed to be 'reserved for women' since it deals with the home and its management. But it is a science as well as an art that relates to modern housekeeping, and we all know that long gone are the days when women and men followed their 'traditional roles of homemaker and bread-winner', respectively. Today, people are more open-minded in their views and chose careers that are satisfying to them, rather than just to please society.

Home Science is defined as the study built on disciplines for gaining optimum well-being of the home and family life, within a changing society. This management is based on scientific research and knowledge that pertains to the home as well as the outside world. The subjects involved are PCB, hygiene, rural development, community living, art, food, clothing, textiles and home management etc. making Home Science a wonderful learning tool for better-living.

The jobs in this profession may be varied and in accordance with the area of specialization. Therefore it may involve teaching and research, marketing, demonstrating (demonstrator), supervision etc.

Educational Qualification:
For starting level students can take up Home Science as a part of their class XII curriculum. However, for taking up home science as a subject at B.Sc. level a student need to pass the 10+2 exam preferably with science subjects (physics, chemistry, biology) and at least 50% marks.
